We're so glad that you came to this portion of the website. All of us here at Solid Rock want to share with you the reality of knowing God personally. Many people don't realize that we can know God as intimately as a friend or father. We hope that these basic truths will guide you toward this relationship. 1. REALIZE
Realize and admit your spiritual need. One thing that everyone everywhere has in common is the fact that we are sinners. The Bible defines sin as "missing the mark." God's mark is perfection. God Himself is completely perfect; we on the other hand, are not.
Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
In fact God is so perfect and righteous, sin cannot even be in His presence and God must and will judge sin. What is the judgment on sin? Death.
Romans 6:23: "The wages of sin is death." But God gives us a way to escape this judgment and that’s through our belief in Jesus. The second part of this verse says, “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
Realizing your spiritual need for Jesus is the first step in knowing God and gaining your salvation. 2. RECOGNIZE
Recognize that Jesus took the judgment of our sin. God, understanding our condition, provided the way to Heaven by sending Jesus, His only Son, to die in our place. Jesus Christ, being God in human flesh and perfect not only in His nature, but also in all of His ways, took the judgment of sin upon himself when He died on a cross 2000 years ago. Jesus, who committed no sin and no crime, willingly hung on this cross to bear the penalty for our sins. Because Jesus was God in the flesh, three days later He rose from the dead, defeating the power of sin and death.
John 10:17-18, “For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father”.
Romans 5:6-8: "For when we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for a good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
God is not only a just God, but a loving God as well. He must judge your sin, yet God loves YOU with an everlasting love. That is why he sent His Son to deal with your sin.
John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
In one act, God judged sin and demonstrated His incredible love for you. 3. RECEIVE
Receive God's free gift of eternal life. God's gift of eternal life through Jesus is free to you. You can simply receive this gift by faith, be forgiven of all your sins and live forever with Him. No amount of money is required, nor can you perform enough hours of work. It is a gift, therefore it is free, yours for the asking.
1 John 5:11-13, “And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.
Today, receive God's complete and total forgiveness. 4. REPENT
Repent from your current direction. A simple definition of the word repent is "to change your heart towards God” ." This means that we simply realize that we are going the wrong direction. Stop where you are. Make a 180-degree turn, and go towards life—towards God.
This also may mean that we need to change our mind about who we think God is, or what we think of His true character. Many people today have an incorrect view of God.
God has revealed himself through His son Jesus, and will continue to reveal Himself to you through the Bible. Know this, God loves you and has an incredible plan for your life, but you must follow Him.
Acts 3:19, “Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."
Repent and follow Jesus. 5. REJOICE
Rejoice in the reality that your sins are forgiven, God has accepted you as His own child, and you are going to Heaven.
You were created to know God and God created you to be in relationship with Him. When this happens, when you come to terms with the reason for your existence, all of Heaven rejoices.
Luke 15:10: "…I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
We can live out our lives in assurance that we are right with God, with the joy that nothing will separate us from the love of God, and having the confidence that we are going to heaven.
Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
If you want this forgiveness of sins and this hope of heaven, simply pray this prayer and mean it from your heart.
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins. I give my life to you right now and ask you to be my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
